Inertia Avenue started out nothing more than a mere home songwriting & recording passtime for founding member Hammy. Upon completion of the first batch of songs that would eventually evolve into the Inertia Avenue setlist, Hammy hooked up with long-time friend Gary Millar on drums and former Battalion Of Flies bandmate Tony Noble on bass. The trio have been rehearsing regularly, honing in on a collective sound that will hopefully form the basis of a strong live unit.

Initially, the trio just rehearsed the songs that were already written beforehand by Hammy. But, after a while, the three gelled into a constructive songwriting unit. Although most of all the musical input still came from the same source, the three could put those ideas and progressions into better composed and arranged songs. So, the band went from strength to strength creatively, and soon got into the habit of habitually writing new material.

Inertia Avenue is a story and process of spontaneity. Never approaching every aspect of writing from a method of polished finalism, much of the recorded material was based on impulse. Many of the guitar parts were either improvised or written on the spot in the recording process. Many of the lyrics were written on the spot also in recording. The music will continue to be written and recorded on impulse, as often the best musical moments are captured this way.

The core of the bands sound has its roots in 80's rock/metal. The lush chorus/delay sounds of the likes of Van Halen & Whitesnake were a clear indication of the type of retro 80's warmth they wanted to convey. As Hammy is also the producer of all of the band's recordings to date, this allowed him to really capture the sound the band needed.

The band began their foray into live performance with a debut gig in their home town of Edinburgh to a very warm response. It was the reward for 9 months of rehearsal and a creative writing process that enabled the band to put together a strong and cohesive live set. With a staggeringf 16 finished songs to choose from, they were certainly never in danger of not having enough material to choose from.

In the lead-up to those initial live shows, the band recruited Mikey McManus on keyboards on a trial basis. Mikey is also the frontman for Immanis, the side project in which Hammy plays drums. The culmination of that trial period was the desired 4-piece line-up which was aparent in those shows. Afterwards, circumstances had changed and it was become unfeasable for Mikey to remain a band member.

Mikey went on to establish his own band managment business Syndicate Thirteen, which Inertia Avenue have now been rostered to. The band looks forward to a very productive partnership with Syndicate Thirteen.

The band will endevor to find a replacement for Mikey on keyboards, as the live synths definately brought a whole new element to their live sound.

The future for Inertia Avenue looks very productive and busy indeed. The band are still in the height of a creative burst, with material contributions now also coming from Tony.

'JUST LENT, NOT GIVEN' ALBUM RELEASED!

In late 2007 (Christmas day to be precise) Inertia Avenue released their debut album 'Just Lent, Not Given' over the internet as a independent download-only album. Eventually, the band would seek support to license and release the album in traditional CD format.

The band are keen to bring what they feel is a different and fresh sound to a musical landscape that is somewhat creatively redundant and rife with stylistic trends that rarely produce original output.

Its time for Inertia Avenue to make their mark!!!
