Song Title: Friends, Beggars 'n' Violins
Music by: Hammy
Arrangement by: Hammy, Gary, Tony
Lyrics by:: Hammy
Written: Oct 2006
Recorded: Jan/Feb 2007

This song was probably the first in which we really worked as a band to arrange the riffs and ideas I'd brought in. All I'd really had was the basis of the chorus. It definitely had a kind of Cult sound to it, which is always good I say!

This is probably the most arranged song we have, in that it goes many places through many stages to finally come full circle at the end. We tend not to play it live as I really struggle to hit the high notes on the chorus, but maybe with a bit of vocal training it should eventually get there!

This song is essentially about being broke. Often the person most to blame for this is yourself. However, this song is more about the fact there is more to life than money, and people who throw everything at their hopes and dreams are actually the richest among us. No matter what successes or failures lie ahead, they are prepared to chase their dreams no matter what. Often that will lead to financial hardship, but a price has to be paid for happiness and ambition. - Hammy

On your own
Spending money you borrowed
Its time to burn a hole in your head
Its safer to be dead

When your vocation skills ain't enough to pay the bills
And the government ain't your friend no more

Come and wrestle with this feeling
and pull it down to the ground

You feel so cheap
And your pockets ain't so deep
But your spending arm gets longer by the day

This drug of mine
With me all the time
The silver line
Never been so fine
I'll confess my sins
If the violins
Would just play for me

And it hits you when this feeling
Is all you ever know
And you climb right off the ceiling
When the world turns upside down

Friends, beggars and violins
Are stuck in a place and time
Where we all come from
Fate told me to be that way
stuck in a fantasy
where we all belong

You're a backseat driver
No word to the wiser

In decadence we take our dreams even further
Never looking back, the train of time pulls away
A passenger in this ride
With a one-way ticket we close our eyes and pretend
The time we spent were the best days of our lives
Come take what's left come take what's in my head
Come take what's left come take what's left in me
I can't take no for an answer I will go on...

Come on again
It never ends
Just be a man

Friends, beggars and violins
Are stuck in a place and time
Where we all come from
Fate told me to be that way
stuck in a fantasy
where we all belong
