This is THE oldest song we have, even though I said elsewhere that 'Changes' and 'The Way You Were' were the first IA songs. I keep forgetting just how long ago this was written. However, this was not initially an IA song. Alas, it was written for a project which at the time was called 'The Simplicity Complex' which also featured Tony on bass, but it never took off and never made it past a few mere rehearsals with a drum machine! So, it IS the oldest song we have but it wasn't written for IA so I'll stick to my guns here and say it is not technically the first ever IA song!

At the time when I was writing and recording (often I do these simultaneously!) the songs 'Forget', 'One Kiss', and 'Godsend' I decided to revisit and re-record 'Hide and Seek', which was only an untitled arrangement at that time as I had lost the original lyrics. However, I knew exactly the direction and general content of what I had written so re-writing them didn't prove too difficult in the end.

There are about 6 or 7 other Simplicity Complex songs and I had considered if any were viable options for IA. However, that project was really focussed on writing long arrangements with very deep and dark sounds, and that isn't really what I want for IA. Maybe I can dig the odd riff or progression out of the stuff over time, you never know. Its been so long since I last heard any of it I'm a bit unsure if I can even remember half of it!

The lyrics to this are all about the avoidance of unwanted attention, which can be fairly easily surmised from reading the lyrics. Again, I do not think it necessarily has to be the avoidance of a person, it could be the avoidance of a particular issue that keeps haunting you or following you around. Personally, it WAS all about avoiding unwanted attention. Its kinda brutal, but these things happen and although it was years ago and a very distant memory, I do remember it was a pretty big deal at the time. The term' psycho hose beast' from the Wayne's World film could never be more apt! In a sense, it really was like playing 'Hide and Seek'...

- Hammy

Obsession lies in wait
You follow me around
I try to run away
You got me tracked for miles and miles

When I see you
I turn my back so you can't face me
Its cruel but kindness doesn't listen

The way your eyes follow me
Its irritating and then some

All that I've done
Has come undone
All that has been
Has come undone
All that has been
Has come undone

Come and play
Hide and Seek
In your misery
...Is what you'll never mean to me

Its just that way
In every way
Going over and over

The walls are closing in
I'm trapped inside with you
I try to leave without a trace
You got my back the whole way through

Then I see you
A face so heartsick never failing
When all I ever want is freedom

The way your heart follows me
I pity you and then some

Lying in my bed
After all the things I said
Never seem to take effect

All that I've done
Is made us undone
And I say...

I know what's coming
Coming back my way
I run for cover

Come and play
Hide and Seek
In your misery
...Is what you'll never mean to me

Its just that way
In every way
Come and take your heart away from me

Come again?!
Going over and over
