IA Studio Diary (Entry # 5)
By Hammy, 9th May 2008
"Its been two weeks since the drums were recorded, and I only have 6 songs edited for mixing. Nothing I've done in the past has taken this long but I haven't spent so much time on something as this, so I guess I will have to be patient!
We have been in constant contact with Matchbox Recordings, who are keen to put out a single with us. So, the rest of the album may get put on the backburner and mixing time dedicated to the single only as we look to get some much needed exposure. More on this in the coming weeks!"

IA Studio Diary (Entry # 4)
By Hammy, 30th Apr 2008
"Today was spent mostly working on 'Godsend'. I spent a fair few hours lining the live drums against the old programmed drums and looked for any flaws in the human playing and fixed them. To be honest, the tracks were pretty tight but I'm a bit of a perfectionist so I like moving things around to get it more precise. It was around 3 hours work doing Godsend, which sounds like a long time, but the end result was worth the graft. I know that the final mix will benefit hugely from it.
Tomorrow will be a day off from studio stuff as I will be working flat out editing the new IA promo video. All work and no play it seems...but its not a chore, its all good fun!"

IA Studio Diary (Entry # 3)
By Hammy, 29th Apr 2008
"Its day 2 of the mxing stage. I've pretty much compiled all the takes together and composed all the best bits for each song. It wasn't as difficult as I envisaged, as 'grouping' the 10 drum tracks (10 mics basically) means its just like working with a single track of audio - I just click on one and it selects them all. Handy! I'm glad I did alternative takes coz I've been able to pick and choose parts I like best rather than being stuck with only 1 version, especially for any improvised parts.
It has taken 10-12 hours of solid work just to get this far. It will get the best results overall the more time that is spent at this stage. I've played on too many demo's in the past (and present) where drums are just recorded one take then had a bunch of mixing thrown on top and the result is always the same - you wish a,b and c were done differently or wish you'd played x,y and z a bit better. There should be none of that this time, and as a drummer myself, mixing my own sound is really important as its really such a subjective matter."

IA Studio Diary (Entry # 2)
By Hammy, 28th Apr 2008
"I spent most of today simply collating all the files and re-building the drum takes inside of Cubase. The drums were recorded on a Protools system but I use Cubase to mix, so I got Phil to mix every single track of audio out sepearetly so I could then line them all back up on my own PC for mixing. They all have the same zero/start point so this isn't difficult, although it can become a tad arduous trying to match 'hi-hat01_01.01 with tom_3_01_01' not confusing it with 'hi-hat_01_01.02' with 'tom_3_01_03'. Did that make any sense? Well, welcome to my world!!
All the takes are lined up, so the next stage is to sit through each song, choosing the best bits, part by part. Oh Joy!!!"

IA Studio Diary (Entry # 1)
By Hammy, 27th Apr 2008
"Well, got the drums recorded on Thursday & Friday. I've been playing these songs on guitar/vox for a year and a half so was weird to actually play them on the drums! It went really smoothly, apart from when the Mac refused to boot up and the whole session looked in danger of becoming a wasted effort. Luckily, we managed to get it sorted - disk drive error, nothing major, and we were back on track.
As I've had little to no preperation for the drums I recorded around 2-3 takes of each song so I'd have enough parts to choose from at the mixing stage. The whole purpose of this album is to get it distributed so I definately want the best drum tracks laid down as possible, especially since we're doing the recording "the wrong way round" by doing the drums LAST instead of first. But on initial playback, I seemed to have nailed most of it tightly to the track so I don't think its going to be an issue and besides, I enjoy defying convention!"

Album Re-Recording
22nd Apr, 2008
Inertia Avenue have decided to record a 10-track album with a view to an eventual release through a recognised distibution label, of which one has already sounded some interest.
Rather than record all 10 songs from scratch with an untried and untested producer, the band will use the current mixes and re-record certain elements of it. This will primarily involve re-doing all the drum parts with live drums and a lot of vocal tracks that could be done better. Due to the recent change in personnel the drums will be recorded by Hammy. The band are enlisting old friend Phil Murdock to oversee the engineering of this recording which takes place on the 24th & 25th of April.
Progress reports and updates will appear here, as always!

Drummer Switch
11th Mar, 2008
Dummer Gary has decided to leave the band and focus on other projects. Keep an eye out for his new band 'The Day I Vanished' who are making some waves at the moment.
Gary was a major player in founding the band and played an integral part in the arranging of many of IA's songs. His energy and enthusiasm for the music made the IA project see the light of day, transforming from a few songs and idea's to a fully engaging live rock band.
IA wish Gary every success in the future with The Day I Vanished. Go check them out!
IA have enlisted the help of Casey McManus to fill in the vacant drummer position after the departure of Gary Milllar. Casey will play the two upcoming IA shows listed below. Casey is also bandmates with Hammy in metal project Immanis so the moveshould offer a smooth transition.

Drums Recorded!
27th Feb, 2008
The drums for the 4 new IA songs have now been recorded. Hammy will again be producing the demo and has spent the majority of this week tweaking the drums, doing all the usual editing, mixing and time-consuming stuff so it can be ready to goto the next stage which will be recording Tony's bass, hopefully next week.
The four new songs represent a real collaborated effort between all three members in the writing process, with one song, 'Be Me', written almost entirely by Tony.
It is sounding mega already so we can't wait to press on and get it finished and get it out there for you all to hear!

Back in the Studio!
24th Jan, 2008
February 23rd has been earmarked for the date when IA will begin work on recording yet another 4 killer tracks. This session will be for the recording of Gary's drum parts and possible (time allowing) the recording of Tony's bass lines.
After completing 14 songs for the downloadable 'Just Lent, Not Given' album available here, work will begin on the 4 songs that were not recorded as yet. The songs are titled 'Evidence', 'Lessons Learned', 'Creep' and 'Be Me'. The latter of these songs features the first musical input of bassist Tony who wrote the majority of this song and also wrote the lyrics. Its been a welcome if not overdue contribution!
Updates on the progress of the recording will be posted here regularly.
